I am not all that comfortable talking about myself, but for the sake of an introduction, here goes.
Like most people, I rebelled against the thing I felt called to do. I hated English class as a child, but I can remember writing my first story, “My Tree House,” in the first grade. I couldn’t have been much older than five, but I enjoyed the places I could go to in my mind.
As I grew older, I enjoyed being able to find new ways to express my thoughts, especially when someone disagreed with me. These moments challenged me to find a way to lead a person to see things from my perspective without dismissing theirs.
Establishing common ground is the basis of communicating a thought. If I say that a person needs discipline to grow (meaning correction and determination) and the person to whom I am speaking thinks I want to beat them senseless, then we are going to walk away from that conversation with two different agendas.
Hopefully, the words contained within these digital pages can convey my thoughts without resulting in fisticuffs. If you disagree with something I said or want me to explain it further so that we are comparing apples to apples, then, by all means, use the comment section after each entry to convey your thoughts.
I am not perfect. I am going to make mistakes. I am sure that I am going to offend people. If you do me the honor of sticking with me until we find that common ground, you might find we aren’t that different, you and I.
